How to Begin Algebra 2
The best way to begin algebra 2 is to start with a refresher of algebra 1. Algebra 2 builds upon the foundation laid in algebra 1, meaning that all the concepts taught in the first year will still be employed and expanded upon. So having a weak foundation will result in a difficult year in algebra 2. Begin back at the beginning with a solid review.

1
Review the basic concepts of algebra, including the use of variable expressions, the order of operations, the properties of integers, rational and irrational numbers, and know the rules of exponents. These are your basic tools.
-
2
Practice your essential solving and graphing skills. Be able to graph equations and inequalities. Be able to solve equations using graphical methods, substitution and elimination. Solve word problems.
-
-
3
Build on your foundation with those things touched on in algebra 1. Depending on your curriculum, some of these topics may not have been covered. If not, review them on your own, as they are essential in algebra 2. Strengthen your ability to manipulate polynomials, understanding all the basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) of polynomials. Know how to simplify radical expressions. Review or learn the quadratic formula for solving quadratic equations. And review how to solve quadratic equations by factoring the polynomial.
Once you have these things down solid, you are ready to learn algebra 2.
