How to Change the Computer Clock to 24-Hour Time

The clock in the bottom right corner of your desktop can be altered in such a way that it shows military time. Military time does not show AM and PM, rather it shows hours in the PM going from 13 to 23. Changing this clock takes about one minute to accomplish.

Windows Vista and 7

  • Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop.

  • Scroll up and click "Control Panel."

  • Hit "Clock, Language, and Region" option and then "Regional and Language Options" or just "Regional and Language Options" if your are in Classic View.

  • Choose "Customize this format."

  • Click the "Time" tab. Click the "Time format" drop-down menu, choose "HH:mm:ss" and click the "OK" button.

Windows XP

  • Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop.

  • Scroll up and click "Control Panel."

  • Choose the "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options" option and then click "Regional and Language Options." Or, if your are in the Classic View, click "Regional and Language Options."

  • Hit "Customize" and then click the "Time" tab.

  • Click the "Time format" drop-down menu, choose "HH:mm:ss" and click the "OK" button.
