How to Hook Up a Wireless Modem to the Telephone Line

A wireless modem is a device that performs both the functions of a standard Internet modem and a wireless Internet router in one device. If you need to connect your wireless modem to the telephone lines in your home to make it work, this means that you have a DSL wireless modem to be used with DSL Internet service. Hooking up this device to your telephone lines can be completed in just a couple of seconds.

  • Insert a DSL line filter into the telephone jack in your wall. This filter is a required part of the setup and will ensure that your standard telephone and your DSL Internet line will be able to coexist and won't interfere with one another. A line filter should have come with your wireless modem, but if it didn't you can purchase one at a computer store.

  • Insert a standard phone cable into the line filter on your telephone jack. Phone cable should also have come with your wireless modem, and can also be purchased at a computer store in the event that it didn't.

  • Insert the other end of the phone cable into the back of your wireless modem. Your wireless modem is now connected to the telephone jack in your wall, which is all the setup it needed to be able to communicate with the DSL Internet service that is present in your home.
