How to Convert an MP3 & Send It to a Phone
While most new model cellphones as of 2010 support MP3 files, many older phones do not. In order to transfer music to the phone, use it as an MP3 player or add ringtones, third-party software is available to convert the MP3 file to a type suitable for the phone. For example, the MP3 can be converted to a WMA file and then sent to the phone via a USB data cable, memory card, WiFi or Bluetooth.
Things You'll Need
- Computer with Internet access
- Audio converter program (examples are Free MP3 WMA Converter 1.9, Switch Sound File Converter 2.0)

4
Connect the cellphone to the computer by using a USB data cable, WiFi, Bluetooth or a memory card. Keep in mind that the computer must be WiFi- or Bluetooth-enabled in order to utilize those options.

Access the cellphone's data transfer software to locate and transfer the file to the music location on the cellphone, where applicable. For example, iPhone users will use iTunes, and Motorola users may need to use Motorola Mobile Phone Tools. If your MP3 player does not require data transfer software, you should be able to simply drag the converted file to the cellphone, typically found under "My Computer" on a PC or from the desktop on a Macintosh computer.

6
Disconnect the cellphone from the computer, being careful to not damage any connection terminals. Navigate to the music location on the cellphone to play the converted file.

Tips & Warnings
After converting a file, if you don't have a need for the same file in both formats, delete one to save space on the computer.
Some cellphones have a separate directory for ringtones. If converting a file for ringtone use, place it in the ringtone directory.
