How to Change the Internet Connection on Yahoo Messenger
Yahoo! Messenger is an instant messaging (IM) application that goes beyond just sending and receiving lines of text with another IM user. Recent versions of Yahoo! Messenger can broadcast video images, make and receive phone calls and even exchange SMS, or text messages, with cell phones. Video- and audio-based activities require a lot of Internet bandwidth, especially when the resolution and quality are high. Internet speeds vary greatly depending on whether the connection is dial-up or cable. If you have a high-speed Internet service provider, you should make sure that Yahoo! Messenger is recognizing it as such.

Tips & Warnings
Adjust webcam quality in Preferences to reduce the amount of Internet bandwidth required to broadcast images.
Software and hardware firewalls can be the culprit in a lot of Internet connectivity problems, and you may be tempted to disable or turn your firewall off to remedy the problem--this is not secure, especially on a high speed connection. Instead, consider learning about your firewall and then enable the necessary ports to ensure Yahoo! Messenger works properly.
