How Do I Know When to Stop Seeding uTorrent?
The bit torrent protocol allows users in a torrent group (swarm) to share large files through bit torrent clients (applications) such as uTorrent. A torrent is a small packet that contains bits of information the client application will need to download the entire associated file. After downloading the file from other members (peers) in a torrent group, the proper etiquette is to “seed” the file. “Seeding” is the process of connecting to a torrent so you can make your bit torrent files accessible to others.

1
Open the uTorrent application. Click the Start button and select it from your programs list. The application will show a list of the titles you have downloaded from uTorrent.
-
2
Examine the column labeled “Ratio” next to each title. Your ratio will show 1.00 if you have seeded a complete version of the title completely. Otherwise, it will show a number less than 1, such as 0.65.

3
Stop seeding the title if you have reached the desired goal. Right-click the title and select “Stop” from the list. You can also select “Remove” to delete the title from uTorrent or “Remove and” to delete the torrent, data or both torrent and data from your computer.

4
Set the application to stop seeding automatically if you have not reached the desired ratio and do not have the time to wait to reach this goal. Click “Options” on the navigation bar at the top of the screen and select “Preferences.” Click on “Queuing” on the left side of the “Preferences” dialog box. Type 1 into the “Ratio is: <=” in the “Seed While [Default values]” category. The application will stop seeding once the ratio is 1.00. Click “OK” to save the adjustment.
