How to Check XP for a Time Zone Fix

Microsoft Windows XP has a simple method allowing you to check your computer's time zone settings, and then fix them if needed. You must have a set time zone so your computer can maintain the system time, which follows the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as the standard time. In addition, Windows uses the time zone setting to automatically update your computer clock.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" and then "Control Panel."

    • 2

Double-click the "Date and Time" icon on the Control Panel window that opens.

    • 3

Click the "Time Zone" tab of the Date and Time Properties dialog box that opens.

    • 4

Check to see if the time zone displayed is the one you want. If it is not, click the drop-down menu on the Date and Time Properties dialog box and then select the time zone of your choice.

    • 5

Click the "Apply" button and then "OK."
