How to Request a FAFSA Application by Mail thumbnail
The completed paper FAFSA application will take approximately two to three weeks to process.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used by nearly all higher education institutions to determine a student's eligibility for education loans, grants and scholarships. Although the most expedient method for completing the FAFSA application is through their website, an applicant can also request a paper FAFSA application through the mail.

Instructions

    • 1

Call the Federal Student Aid Information Center and request a paper FAFSA application. Please note that you will need to provide basic contact information before they can mail you a paper application. The Information Center can be contacted at 800-4FEDAID (or 800-730-8913 for hearing-impaired users).

    • 2

Complete the paper FAFSA application once you have received the package and mail the relevant portions using the enclosed envelope.

    • 3

Check the status of your application if you have not received a reply after three weeks. You can check the Financial Aid website at www.fafsa.gov, contact the Information Center at 800-4FEDAID, or write to the Federal Student Aid Information Center at P.O. Box 84 Washington DC, 20044-0084.

Tips & Warnings

  • You should complete the paper FAFSA application as quickly as possible because the paper application will require more time to process than the online application.

  • Compile all necessary paperwork and contact your local high school or college counselor for assistance as soon as you receive the paper FAFSA application.
