Instructions

    • 1

Bag up and take out all trash. Make sure you put the trash into a designated dump away from your house or in trash cans with lids to cover them. This will keep the rotting and unpleasant smells that attract flies out of your home.

    • 2

Line the inside of the can with boric acid before replacing the trash bag. Boric acid is a well-known fly and insect killer. For added protection, spritz the interior of your trash bag with a small amount of water and line the bag with boric acid as well.

    • 3

Patch up any openings that you have in windows, screens and door frames. These are prime entrance points for flies and ways that the smell drifts out of your home and into the air where it attracts the flies.

    • 4

Spray your body down with an insect or fly repellent containing DEET. These are available at any grocery store.

    • 5

Keep all animal droppings picked up in your yard. This will keep the flies away from your yard, and therefore, farther away from your home. Flies are attracted to animal feces where they can breed and eat.

    • 6

Keep the kitchen impeccably clean for a few weeks, cleaning up all spills and wrapping rotting foods and wet foods, such as coffee grinds, in a plastic grocery bag before disposing of them in the trash can. This will help to keep the smells and fly-loving environments as sanitary as possible.
