How to Make Your Own Wall Cling Decals
Homemade wall cling decals are a great way to temporarily decorate a space, such as an apartment or a child's room, that you may not want to paint or wall paper. Decals can be cut into just about any size or shape that you wish. You can create art deco swirls, a faux flower garden, trees with extensive branches or even spots to give your walls a funky, artistic feel.

1
Plan out your design. Determine what you want your design to look like and how much wall space you plan to use. It is helpful to sketch your design out on a piece of scratch paper before you begin working on this project.

2
Unroll the contact paper and attach it to your wall with your masking tape. The sheet of contact paper should cover the entire area that you plan on working with. You can hang two or more sheets of the paper side-by-side if you are creating a large-scale project. Do not remove the backing from the contact paper yet, you are merely setting up a canvas from which you will create your design.

3
Use a pencil to sketch your design directly onto the contact paper. Be sure to use a pencil so that any mistakes can be erased. Draw the complete design and examine it to be sure that you like its look and placement. Remove the contact paper from the wall and use the scissors to cut your design out. Cut or trim off any remaining visible pencil marks.

4
Tape your decal to the wall once again with the masking tape to make sure that you like the look of the design and to assist in the placement of the decal. Begin removing the backing from the contact paper at the bottom and firmly push it against the wall. Work upwards and remove only a few inches of the backing at a time until you reach the top. Remove the masking tape at the top and use your hand or a plastic credit card to smooth out any bubbles or creases in the paper.
