How to Get Past a Computer Filter

Computer filters are set up to prevent users from accessing certain web pages and other types of online information while at work or school. If you work for a business, you may need to bypass a filter when you have to access a web page for legitimate research purposes and don't have the time to request a workaround from the IT department. You can do this by using a proxy service to get around the filter.

  Go to a proxy server site such as ProxySites.net, ProxySites.org or ActiveProxies.

  Click the "Top Proxies" (for Proxysites.net), "Free Web Proxies" (for Proxysites.org), or "New Proxies" (for ActiveProxies.org).

  Choose a proxy from the list. Copy and paste it into your web browser and press "Enter."

  Enter your desired URL destination address in the "URL" field of the proxy site. This will access the "Forbidden" web page by bypassing your filter.
