Instructions

    • 1

Start at the purchasing phase. When you buy potted roses, be careful to scrutinize the leaves for any signs that the plant is already infected. Any rose plants that already have black spots should not be purchased.

    • 2

Remember to water your rose bushes from the base of the plant to keep from wetting the leave. Don't sprinkle water on the plant from the top. Watering from the top of the plant can cause the leaves to collect too much moisture ,which will lead to a higher likelihood of the fungus growth that causes black spots.

    • 3

Take care of your roses and handle them gently to avoid injuring your potted rose bushes. Put them on a windowsill with adequate light or place them outside and be sure they are satisfied with their water. A rose plant that is weakened from lack of light or water, or that has been injured from a transplant or a cutting wound, will be more susceptible to disease and fungus.

    • 4

Cut away any diseased and infected areas immediately with sharp pruning shears and discard. Removing the areas with black spots early will prevent the condition from spreading to the rest of the plant.

    • 5

Apply fungicide to potted rose plant to entirely prevent the disease. This method is more dangerous than others because of the use of harsh chemicals, so only use it if all of the above measures fail to protect your roses.
