How to Change the Name of a Database on Xampp

XAMPP is a free and open-source Web server package. Capable of running on Windows, Linux, Solaris and Mac OS X, the package includes Apache HTTP Server, MySQL, PHP and Perl. It also comes with several add-on modules by default, including phpMyAdmin, a utility that provides a visual interface for the MySQL database engine. By making use of phpMyAdmin, changing the name of a XAMPP database becomes a very quick task.

  • Start your XAMPP server.

  • Open a Web browser, type "http://localhost/phpmyadmin" in the address bar, and press the "Enter" key to open the phpMyAdmin utility. If you previously changed your default host name, substitute the actual name for "localhost."

  • Click the name of the database you want to change from the list on the screen's left-hand panel.

  • Click the "Operations" tab near the top of the screen on the right-hand panel.

  • Enter a new database name in the "Rename database to" field.

  • Click the adjacent "Go" button to execute the change.
