How to Tether an iDEN Phone
When you tether, it means that you are using a cell phone as a portable modem for your computer. Instead of using a typical cable, DSL or 56K modem, your phone service will act as the Internet service provider for your computer. Although you can do this with smartphones and PDAs, the bandwidth (amount of information that can be transmitted to and from your computer) is typically low, meaning that your web pages will take a long time to load. Still, as a last resort, you have the ability to tether your iDEN phone and get your Internet on the go.
Instructions
-
Connecting the Phone
-
1
Power on your phone and connect it to your PC or laptop via your USB data cable.
-
2
Click Start>Control Panel>Printers and Other Hardware. Click "Phone and Modem Options" to bring up another window.
-
-
3
Click the "Modems" tab. Any modems that are connected to your computer should be displayed. Click the "Add" button, and then check the box that says "Don't Detect My Modem" when a pop-up dialog box appears.
-
4
Choose "Standard Modem Types" under the "Manufacturer" option on the left-hand side of the window. Scroll through the list of given options on the right-hand side of the window under "Models," and choose "Standard 19200 bps Modem." Click "Next" when you're finished.
-
5
Check the "Selected Ports" option in the next window. Choose the port that your phone is connected to and click "Next" and then "Finish" to complete the tethering process.
Setting Up a Dial-up Connection
-
6
Click Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections>Network Connections.
-
7
Click the "Create a New Connection" link located on the left-hand side of the window.
-
8
Check the "Connect to the Internet" box in the next window, then click "Next" to continue.

Choose "Set Up My Connection Manually" in the following window, then click "Next." In the following window, select "Connect Using a Dial-up Modem."
-
10
Choose the "Standard 19200 bpm" modem again when prompted. Give your modem connection a name on the next screen. It's helpful here to name it after something that will remind you that it's your iDEN phone.
-
11
Enter your iDEN phone number in the next window, then click "Next."
-
12
Fill out the appropriate information when prompted (username and password), then click "Next." Click "Finish" in the next window to complete your iDEN modem connection setup.
