Protect your dog from annoying pests.

Protecting your dog from parasitic pests can be one of the most important steps you take in giving him a happy and healthy life. Advantix and Frontline offer the most effective system in combating threats such as fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, lice and biting flies. Both use an insecticide unique to each product. They are applied topically to the skin in three or four spots along the back of your dog monthly. Understanding the ingredients and knowing your dog's environment will determine which product is best for you.

Look at Frontline's active ingredient list. Frontline contains Fipronil, an insecticide that effects the nervous system of the flea and tick eventually leading to death. Fipronil is absorbed into the underlying layers of the dog's skin and is slowly distributed to effectively kill existing fleas and ticks within twelve hours, then continues to prevent further infestation for up to six weeks.

Examine Advantix's active ingredient list. Advantix contains Permethrin and Imidacloprid. Permethrin is an insecticide that disrupts the nervous system causing muscle spasms, paralysis and possibly death on flies, fleas, mosquitoes, lice, and ticks. Imidacloprid is a topical insecticide that instantly kills adult fleas. The combined efforts of these ingredients will work rapidly and absolutely in killing multiple pests.

Determine your dog's exposure. All dogs are at risk for fleas. If your dog is mainly indoors he has a low probability of contact with other parasites. Frontline is an ideal preventative option. If your dog is mainly outdoors, camps, hunts or travels frequently he will need the further protection from disease carrying pests such as ticks, mosquitoes and lice that Advantix offers.

Tips & Warnings

  • Advantix and Frontline are both administered according to the dog's weight. Ask your veterinarian for proper dosing.

  • Both products remain effective after water exposure, but use a non-detergent shampoo when bathing.

  • Advantix is not for cats.

  • Always apply according to instructions and in the evening to allow for absorption overnight, this will limit your exposure to the insecticides.
