How to Import a Registry File on a Remote Computer

A registry file is a file containing one or more registry "keys," which are entries detailing information about hardware or software on a particular computer. You can import registry files remotely through the remote desktop connection utility embedded in Windows. This procedure can generally be accomplished in 10 minutes or less.

Things You'll Need

• Registry file
• IP address of the computer receiving the import

Instructions

1. Click "Start" and type "Remote Desktop Connection" in the "Search" box.

2. Press "Enter." Input the IP address of the computer to which you wish to connect.

3. Enter a username and password (if prompted).

4. Click "Start," type "regedit" in the "Search" box, and press "Enter."

5. Click "File," click "Import," and select the registry file to import. Click "Open" to complete the procedure.
