How to Write a Resume Without College Experience thumbnail
An impressive resume can help you get hired.

Many jobs are available to established and talented professionals who may not have earned a formal college degree. If this sounds like you, try not to be discouraged when you sit down to write your resume. Before you can apply for many positions, you'll need to create a resume that highlights your experience and training. Just because you don't have a college degree, that doesn't mean you can't have an impressive resume.

Instructions

    • 1

Type your name and contact information at the top of your resume, including your full name, address, phone number and email.

    • 2

Create a section for your objective. Your objective should contain the purpose of writing your resume, such as "To obtain a position as a sales executive in the medical supplies industry."

    • 3

Add a section for your professional skills. This should include three to five lines listing your most impressive and relevant skills that you've developed throughout your career. For example, a salesperson might include account management, client relations and improving sales figures as relevant skills.

    • 4

List your professional experience before your education and training in a work-history section. Include the professional jobs you've held and details about each one that are relevant to the job you're applying for. For each position, include your employer, the location, your title, your dates of employment and three to five bullet points that list your specific duties and responsibilities. Again, try to list responsibilities that are closely related to the type of position you're applying for. Without a college degree, it's important to demonstrate that you have relevant work experience and can handle the duties of the job.

    • 5

Create a section for your education and training. You may not have a formal degree, but you may have taken some college courses, completed training programs, received certifications or attended relevant seminars, conferences and workshops. For each item, list the affiliated company, organization or institution, the location, the dates and the resulting certification when applicable. If you're in the process of receiving your degree, be sure to list the university, the location, your area of study, the degree you plan to receive and your expected graduation date in this section.
