How To Upgrade Yahoo Messenger's Old Version

If you have an older version of Yahoo! Messenger you may be missing out on some features that the newest version of the instant messenger offers. Things like video chat, voice chat and chat rooms may not be available on your version and those are some useful chatting options to have. Also, the newer Yahoo! Messenger has more customization features to really make it your own that you may not have had before. Unfortunately, there is no “upgrade” button on your current Yahoo! Messenger and it has to be done the long way.

Instructions

1. Delete your current version of Yahoo! Messenger. You can do this by going to your “Control Panel,” selecting “Uninstall a program” or “Add or Remove Programs,” and then uninstalling Yahoo! Messenger from the list of programs.

2. Open your Web browser and navigate to the Yahoo! homepage.

3. Click on “Messenger,” and then click the “Download Now” button. A new page will open after that where you have to click “Download Now” again.

4. Save and run the Yahoo! Messenger installer.

5. Follow the installation wizard. You need to choose any extras that you want to install with the program, agree to the terms and service, and then finally allow the program to install.

6. Open and log in to your new Yahoo! Messenger. Your contacts are all saved, but since this is a newer version of Messenger than you had before, you may need to personalize it again.
