Kenmore Sewing Machine Guide
When people buy a sewing machine, they often look through the manual one time and then toss it aside. The next time the owner has a question, she can not find the manual anywhere. Fortunately, you can find manuals for many different Kenmore sewing machines online. Most of what people use out of the manual is the basic sewing settings and what each working part of the machine is. Many of the basics are the same from one Kenmore sewing machine to another.

1
Insert the correct type of needle for the project you want to work on. Turn the screw above the needle plate, using only your fingers. Insert the head of the needle, making sure to turn the flat part of the needle toward the back of the machine, and tighten the screw again.
-
2
Wind the bobbin by setting the spool on the spool pin at the upper right side of the machine. Remove the plastic hook plate cover (found under the needle).
-
-
3
Wrap the thread around an empty bobbin spool that came with your Kenmore sewing machine and then set the bobbin on the bobbin winder spindle. Wrap the thread between the bobbin and the spool around the upper thread guide.
-
4
Pull out the handwheel of your Kenmore sewing machine. Step on the pedal to wind the bobbin.
-
5
Thread the sewing machine with a regular spool of thread. Guide the thread through the upper thread guide, the tension dial, the thread take-up lever and then into the hole in the needle.
-
6
Turn the thread tension dial to the desired setting, with 3, 4 and 5 being normal.
-
7
Set your stitch length by turning the stitch length control knob. Remember that “2” is normal on a Kenmore sewing machine. Use the highest number to sew gathering stitches.
-
8
Put the stitch width at the appropriate setting. Keep in mind that “0” is normal.
-
9
Choose your stitch type. Turn the stitch selector knob to choose the appropriate stitch for your project, otherwise leave the sewing machine set at the straight stitch (most Kenmore sewing machines have pictures of the stitches to help you decide which stitch you want to use).

Tips & Warnings
Make sure to use bobbins that come with your Kenmore sewing machine or order more from Sears. Using the wrong kind of bobbin could damage your sewing machine or not sew fabric properly.
Keep in mind that most Kenmore sewing machines thread from the front of the needle to the back, however some models thread from the side of the needle.
