Change the SMTP server in your Mac's Mail application.

The outgoing server for the Mail application on the Leopard operating system (10.5) of your Macintosh computer is called the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). If you have more than one email account assigned to your Mail application, you can choose which server to use for outgoing mail. In order to select a specific server, you must configure the application's default SMTP settings to redirect which server is used as the new default SMTP server. This can be done in the "Preferences" section of the Mail application.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Mail" icon located in your Macintosh's dock. Alternatively, click "Go" at the top of the screen, select "Applications" from the drop-down menu and double-click the "Mail" icon.

    • 2

Click "Mail" at the top of the screen. Select "Preferences" from the drop-down menu.

    • 3

Click the "Accounts" button at the top of the Preferences window, and click the drop-down menu next to "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)."

    • 4

Select "Edit SMTP Server List" from the drop-down menu and type in the new server name in the blank field next to "Server Name." Click "OK" to save the changes.

    • 5

Click the drop-down menu next to "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" and select the new SMTP server from the drop-down list. Click the red button in the upper-left corner to save the changes and exit the Preferences window.
