How to Reinstall Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 3000

      Turn on the computer and quickly insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive or DVD drive. Press the space bar when the "Press any key to boot from CD" message appears.

      Press “Enter” when the “Welcome to Setup” screen appears. Accept the licensing agreement by pressing the “F8” key.

      Press “D” to erase the hard disk partition, if one exists. Press “C” to create a new hard disk partition and choose “Format the partition by using the NTFS file system.”

      Enter the product key code on the yellow sticker attached to the installation CD sleeve. Click “Next.”

      Click “Next” through each subsequent prompt until the Windows XP installation process is complete. Click “Finish” and allow the system to reboot.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes the online product activation wizard cannot complete the software activation process via Internet connection. If this is the case, you may choose to call the toll-free number provided by the product activation wizard to obtain an activation code.
