How to Change Your Windows Live ID
Changing your Windows Live ID (and password) is easy if you have an e-mail sign in account. However, if you are using a Hotmail e-mail address, you will not be able to make this change. Don't forget that you may need to forward your e-mail from your old address to the new one. There will be an option to do that when you change your Windows Live ID. Also, your contacts may appear to be offline for 48 hours after you change your information.
