How to Move a Solid Wood 20-by-20-Foot Shed Skid
Moving a storage shed is a project that will take a couple of people to accomplish. You first need to check with the city permit department to find out if you need a permit for the shed. Call your utility company and have the yard flagged so that you don't place the shed over a utility easement. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Floor jack
- Several pieces of schedule 40 PVC pipe
- 3/4-inch plywood scraps
- Rope
- Eye bolts

1
Jack up the end of the shed skid and place a few temporary blocks under it to keep it elevated on one end. Slide a piece of PVC pipe under the skid. Lower the skid onto the PVC pipe. Use a floor jack sitting on a small piece of 3/4-inch plywood for this step. You may have to dig out a corner of the skid to get the jack under it to start the process. A spade shovel will work well for this.

2
Repeat the last step, working your way down the length of the skid so that you end up with four pieces of PVC pipe under the skid.
-
-
3
Drill the edge of the skid and attach eye bolts on the side of the skid you want to move the shed. Place two of them a foot in from each side of the skid.
-
4
Tie a rope to the eye bolts and use it to roll the skid toward you a few feet onto another piece of the PVC pipe.
-
5
Repeat the last step, but take the last piece of PVC that you rolled off of and move it to the front to repeat the process. The skid should be light enough while supported on the smooth PVC pipe to slightly change directions as you go if needed.
-
6
Jack up the skid and remove the PVC pipe once you have it positioned at its new location.

Make the process quicker by placing a jack on each side.
After you have one or two pieces of PVC pipe under the skid, stand on the skid and tilt it up to slide the other pieces of PVC under it. This is where a friend comes in handy.
