How to Configure Mozilla Thunderbird for a Hotmail Account

While it won't check your email, it's much more stylish.

Mozilla Thunderbird is an email compiling program, much like Microsoft Outlook, developed by Mozilla for use on PCs and Macs. Starting with Thunderbird 3.0, linking your Thunderbird to your Hotmail account has become incredibly easy thanks to the use of the WebMail plugin that Thunderbird uses. The task, which only takes a few moments to complete, will allow you to access your full Hotmail account.

Instructions

1. Open Thunderbird and click "File" in the upper-left corner of the window.

2. Open the "New" menu and navigate to the "Mail Account" from the sub-menu that opens. Click it to open the "Mail Account Settings" window.

3. Enter your name (which will appear on outgoing emails), your Hotmail address and your password. Click "Continue."

4. Input your password for both your ingoing and outgoing mail, and click "Finish." Thunderbird will automatically draw the contents of your Hotmail account.
