How to Get the 5th Gym Door Open in Diamond
Pokemon Diamond is a role-playing game for the Nintendo DS that is part of the popular "Pokemon" series. The goal in Pokemon Diamond is similar to that of the other Pokemon games; players have to catch creatures known as Pokemon and use them to duel bosses who control Pokemon gyms. Upon beating a gym leader, the player receives a badge for that gym as a symbol of his skill as a Pokemon trainer. Before a player can beat the boss of the fifth gym, however, he has to unlock the gym's entrance. To do this, he must complete a few small quests in other parts of the game world.

Go to Route 213, and move from there to the beach at Lake Valor. Head east at the beach until you see the Grunt that you have encountered previously in the game.

Talk to the Grunt, after which he will run away. Continue through the beach and pass through the Hotel Grand Lake.

Turn right at the Seven Stars Restaurant after exiting the hotel. Talk to the Grunt again when you see him, causing him to run away again.

Head north until you see the Grunt again. He will attack you using a level 25 Glameow. Defeat him, then continue north.

Keep going north until you meet Cynthia. When she asks, tell her that you've seen the group of Psyducks on Route 210. Accept the "SecretPotion" item to give to the Psyducks.

Head to Route 210. If you have a Pokemon that can use the "HM02 Fly" ability, you can use this to go to Solaceon Town and then head north to Route 210.

Locate the Psyducks and talk to one of them. You will have the option to give them the "SecretPotion" item, which you should do. After giving them the potion, Cynthia will appear and ask you to take an "Old Charm" item to Celestic Town.

Follow Route 210. There will be optional trainer battles that you can fight if you wish, or you can avoid them and focus on completing your task. Continue along Route 210, then head west to Celestic Town.

Locate the Pokemon Center (healing your Pokemon if you need to), then head west until you meet an old woman. This is Cynthia's grandmother, the one you are supposed to deliver the "Old Charm" item to.

Explore the town and talk to the Team Galactic member guarding the old ruins. Battle him if you wish, then explore the ruins. Inspect the painting at the back of the ruins to receive "HM03 Surf" from Cynthia's grandmother.

Exit the ruins. The man that you saw before completing the third gym will appear and introduce himself as Cyrus, the leader of Team Galactic. Talk to him, then head to Hearthome City (using "HM02 Fly" if possible.)

Head to the fifth gym. The door will now be open.

Tips & Warnings
The gym leader for the fifth gym uses ghost-type Pokemon, so make sure that you equip Pokemon that are strong against the ghost type.
