How to Block Websites on a Router
Filtering inappropriate content can be difficult when handling multiple computers on a network. By blocking websites with the router, you don't have to worry about each computer's filter settings, as the content will never be forwarded to the computer in the first place.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open a web browser.
-
2
Type in the IP address of your router in the address bar and press "Enter." This information varies by manufacturer; you may need to obtain it from your router manual or the manufacturer's website.
-
-
3
Log in to your router. If you've never done this before, refer to the manual to obtain the default username and password.
-
4
Look for a menu item called "Access Restrictions" or something similar.
-
5
Add the IPs and addresses of the websites you wish to block.
-
6
Save your new settings by clicking the "Save" button, typically at the bottom of the page.
-
7
Restart your router, if it does not reboot automatically, by unplugging the power cord for 10 seconds and then plugging it back in.
