How to Make Hammock Stands
Hammocks are the epitome of taking it easy. You can relax in style anytime you want by setting up a hammock in your backyard. You don't need two well-placed trees to make a hammock dream into reality. Building your own hammock stand means you can place it wherever you want and can even fold it up when the hammock won't be used. No special tools are required to make a hammock stand at home and previous construction experience is not necessary. Does this Spark an idea?

Tie the top of three dowels together in a pyramid shape. Run the rope around the dowels and through the cross sections so the dowels are held together securely but can still be adjusted.

Draw a mark 8 feet up from the bottom of each dowel, when the tied end is facing upward, using a tape measure and pencil.

Stand the dowels up, with the tied end on top. Spread the feet apart so the shape is steady.

Measure horizontally from one of the dowels to the next nearest one. These dowels should be 14 feet apart, when measured at the 8-foot height mark. Make sure that all three dowels are spaced at 14 feet apart at the mark made along the height.

Tips & Warnings
The dowels will end up roughly at a 45-degree angle from the ground.
Test the hammock out gently the first time the stand is used to make sure the dowels are tied properly at the top.
