How to Clean a Carbon Steel Wok
Traditional carbon steel woks are lightweight and transfer heat quickly. Use a carbon steel wok to prepare fast, healthy meals. High heat and minimal fat make wok use a good choice for those watching their caloric intake. Proper cleaning and seasoning will maintain the life of the wok and create a nonstick surface. Things You'll Need
- Scrubbing sponge, non-metallic
- Mild dish soap
- Paper towels
- Vegetable oil

Remove any food from the wok. Rinse it under hot running water.

Use a scrubbing sponge to wash the interior of the wok. Use the hot water to soften stuck on food and scrub the wok to remove all of the food particles. For stubborn food particles, use one or two drops of dish soap. Don't use soap often because it strips the seasoning. Wipe the outside of the wok with the sponge.

Rinse the wok in hot water and dry the inside and outside with paper towels.

Place the wok on medium-high heat and apply a thin, even coating of vegetable oil to the inside of the wok with a paper towel. Wait one minute and turn off the heat. The heat fully dries the wok and the oil prevents rust and sticking.

Never put carbon steel woks in the dishwasher.
Never use metallic scrubbers on a carbon steel wok.
