You need to correctly confgiure a wireless network printer with the correct information to add it into your wireless network.

Many printers are being produced with integrated wireless cards. The wireless card not only allows a computer to connect to the printer wirelessly, but also for multiple users to use the printer without a separate print server. Each computer that wants to use the printer must have the driver installed. Also, the printer must be configured with the correct wireless network name (the SSID), and the correct wireless security key.

  • Computer

Instructions

    • 1

      Insert the installation disc for the wireless printer into the disc drive of the computer. An installation wizard will start up.

      Follow the on screen prompts on the installation wizard and when prompted, connect the USB cable from the computer to the printer.

      Continue with the installation wizard until you are prompted to enter the SSID and wireless security key. Enter this information for the wireless network you are using.

      Finish the installation wizard and disconnect the USB cable. You can now print wirelessly. Run the wizard on any other computers that need to connect to the wireless printer by inserting the installation disc into the disc drives of those computers.

Tips & Warnings

  • The SSID and wireless security key can be obtained from your network administrator or if you were the one who set up the wireless router, use the same information as when you setup the router. You can also change the SSID and wireless key by logging into the router. Connect an Ethernet cable between the computer and one of the LAN ports on the router, then open a web browser and type in the router utility address and login information found in the router's user manual. Click on "Wireless" to change the SSID. You may need to click on "Wireless Security" to change the wireless security key.
