Quickly locate your Internet Explorer version number.

First released in August 1995, Microsoft's Internet Explorer is one of the most widely used Web browsers. Though early versions of the browser could often be visually differentiated as a result of substantial user-interface changes, recent editions of the program have maintained a more consistent appearance. As a result, verifying the version number of the Internet Explorer installation on your computer requires selecting the appropriate item from the Help menu.

Instructions

    • 1

Open an Internet Explorer browser window.

    • 2

Click "Help" in the top menu bar.

    • 3

Select "About Internet Explorer." Your version number appears in the resulting dialog box next to the "Version" label.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't see your top menu bar, reveal it by pressing the "Alt" key. You can turn the bar on permanently by clicking the "Alt" button then selecting "View," "Toolbars" and then "Menu."
