VNC is a remote control software for a desktop computer. Through a network, users can securely access VNC and manipulate a computer from a remote location, such as another computer or a mobile device. The software installs by default to run at Windows start-up, but this can be turned off so the service runs only when needed.
Open "Services" in the control panel by clicking on the Start Menu, selecting "Control Panel" and then opening up "Administrative Tools" and then "view local services" or "component services".
Find the service that includes "VNC" in the name, such as "WinVNC". Click the "Startup Type" tab along the top of the folder to bring all the "automatic" startup programs to the top of the list. This should make finding the VNC service easier.
Right-click on the "VNC" service and click "Properties". In the drag-down menu next to "Startup type:" select "disabled". Click "OK" to close the window. Reboot your computer by clicking the "Start Menu", "Shutdown", then "Reboot".
Tips & Warnings
- Once you've disabled the startup service for VNC, you can still open the program when you wish to use the feature.
