Instructions

    • 1

Light the charcoal with your matches or lighter for about 20 seconds until it self-ignites. Use tongs to hold it up (never hold it with your fingers alone or you might get burned). Place it in a bowl, urn or any incense burner.

    • 2

Allow the charcoal to warm up for about three minutes. You'll know it's ready when it turns gray around the edges.

    • 3

Add a small amount of resin on top of the charcoal. The resin will burn and soon release essential, aromatic oils through the smoke.

    • 4

Experiment with various types and combinations of resins and aromatic herbs. Add fragrant woods and traditional blends of oils. They contain natural properties that evoke different moods and emotions such as tranquility, love and joy.

Tips & Warnings

  • A lighter (or taper candle) is better used for lighting the charcoal rather than matches because its flame lasts longer.

  • Some people place sand on the incense burner before adding the charcoal to help absorb the heat.
