Disabling certain features in Internet Explorer is helpful if you are a PC administrator and you have a public computer. Through Internet Options, third party users or hackers can access information that may compromise your business or home life. Fortunately, you can block access to this feature by modifying your registry. Disabling Advanced Internet Options, if done correctly, does not pose any threat to your system. You can always reconfigure Internet Explorer back to its default settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch "Run" from the Windows Start menu.

    • 2

Type "regedit.exe" in the "Open" field and then hit "Enter" on your keyboard, or select "OK."

    • 3

Select "Yes" when prompted by a dialog box asking, "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?" The Registry Editor opens.

    • 4

Go to the following branch: My Computer/HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer

    • 5

Navigate to the "Restrictions" key. If your PC does not have a "Restrictions" key, create one by right-clicking under the "Internet Explorer" branch, selecting "New" and then choosing "Key." Right-click on the new key and rename it "Restrictions."

    • 6

Create a new DWORD value by placing your cursor in an empty area on the right pane, selecting "New," and then choosing "DWORD" from the list of options.

    • 7

Rename the new DWORD value to "NoBrowserOptions."

    • 8

Right-click on the "NoBrowserOptions" DWORD, select "Modify" and then enter "1" under the "Value Data" field. You have successfully disabled Internet Options.
