How to Make a Pop-Up House
Making a homemade card to welcome someone into the neighborhood or to congratulate them on moving into a new home is a nice gesture. Use simple folding techniques to create a pop-up house to surprise the recipient when he opens the card. You can begin the phrase "Welcome to your..." on the front of the card, and continue with "new home!" on the inside under the pop-up house.
Things You'll Need
- Construction paper in desired colors
- Colored pencil
- Ruler
- Pencil

1
Draw a simple pentagon-shaped house measuring 4-by-3 inches on a piece of white construction paper. Add details to the house, such as a door, windows and a roof in colored pencil.
-
2
Fold another piece of construction paper in half so the shorter sides meet each other. This will be a card oriented so that it opens up from the bottom like a calendar, not like a book.

3
Orient the folded card so the fold faces you. Cut two 1-inch vertical slits starting at the fold and spaced 2 inches apart.
-
4
Open the card. Poke the creased edge between the cuts from the back of the card so it sticks out inside the card. Pinch along the fold to crease. Close card. Crease along the back of the card where there is a rectangular space missing to sharpen the folds inside the card. Now when the card is opened, a small step-shaped rectangle will "pop" up from the center.
-
5
Glue the construction paper house to the front side of the pop-up step, being careful to arrange the bottom of the house flush with the bottom of the step or slightly higher so the card can fold back down easily.
