How to Read Scanned Magazines Online

How to Read Scanned Magazines Online thumbnail
Scanned magazines can be found in all sorts of places online.

Reading scanned magazines online can be a hit or miss proposition. Some publications, trying to retain readership of their paper issues, only put some articles online or abridge them. However, you can easily find scans for plenty of others online, particularly scans of older issues. Several websites offer magazine scans.

Instructions

    • 1

Search the magazine's website for the article. Sometimes the publication will post scans of the actual pages, but at the very least you can probably read the text of the article online.

    • 2

Search Mygazines, a site specializing in magazine scans. This is the best place to go for recent issues of participating magazines, of which there are hundreds. You can't find some of the biggest magazines here, but second-tier and niche magazines abound.

    • 3

Search Google Books. Their selection of magazine scans is stunning, with almost all popular magazines included. They generally do not have the most recent issue, but some publications go all the way up to a month or two back.

    • 4

Search JSTOR for scholarly magazines or print journals. This site is ideal for academic research, with archives of magazines sometimes decades old. You will need an account, but your college, university or business likely already has one you can use.
