How to Unfold a Metal Futon

Elizabeth Arnold

The futon is a very popular furniture item for both the home and college dorm. From the living room to the office, a futon is an affordable and convenient addition to any space. It is available in a wide range of sizes and styles, and comes with a twin, full or queen-size mattress. It is also available in a variety of colors and materials, such as wood or metal bases, and can blend with any home decor. Both convenient and comfortable, a futon can unfold into a bed when additional sleeping arrangements are required.

  1. Make space around the futon by moving any objects, such as a coffee table, away from it.

  2. If the back of the futon is resting against a wall, pull the futon out to create a space behind it. If you unfold the futon while it is against the wall, it may leave unsightly marks.

  3. Locate the handle at the front of the futon. It will usually be located at the center of the cushion. Traditionally, a futon has one or two pull handles located at the front base.

  4. Grab the handle and pull it towards you. Slowly walk backwards so that the bed can unfold without causing injury.

  5. Let the futon bed gently unfold, allowing it to rest against the base. Your futon couch is now a futon bed.
