Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, a soothing place where you can leave behind the day's stress. A bed made with freshly laundered sheets and pillows that cradle your head is one way to ensure your serenity. Taking the time to make your bed in the morning goes a long way toward helping you relax when you climb into it at night. Properly making a bed is an easy skill to learn and the more often you do it, the less time it will take.
Things You'll Need
- Mattress cover
- Two sheets
Stand at the foot of the bed. Hold the corners of one of the short sides of the mattress cover. Throw the cover over the bed. If the cover is contoured, pull the fitted corners over the mattress corners. If the cover has elastic at the corners, secure it by pulling each elastic loop over the bed's corners.
Place the bottom sheet on the bed so its corners line up with the bed's corners. If the sheet is contoured or fitted, pull the sheet's corners over the mattress corners and tuck it under the mattress.
If the bottom sheet is flat, form hospital corners. Flip the sheet over the mattress. Arrange it so it's even all around the mattress. Tuck the sheet under the mattress at the head and foot of the bed. Tuck the sheet under one side of the bed. Make sure it's straight and not bunched between the mattress and springs. This forms a crease on both corners of this side of the bed. Pull down on the bottom of the sheet at the bottom corner, making sure the crease is taut. Tuck it under the mattress. Do the same at the head of the bed. Repeat on the other side.
Drape the top sheet over the bed so it's even on both sides, hangs down about 2 feet at the foot of the bed and extends to the head. Tuck the sheet under the mattress at the foot and both sides, leaving about 2 feet loose at the head of the bed. Tuck in the sheet evenly so creases form at the two bottom corners, making it easy to create hospital corners.
Lay a blanket over the top sheet. It should hang evenly on both sides and the foot. Tuck in the blanket at the foot and both sides. Fold the top sheet back over the blanket. Smooth the blanket to eliminate wrinkles.
Pull the pillowcases over the pillows, making sure the seams are even with the sides and bottom. The pillow's corners should fit neatly into the pillowcase corners. Place the pillows, side by side, at the head of the bed.
Position the bedspread so it covers the bed evenly on both sides, and the mattress and box spring at the foot of the bed. Fold it back over the sheet and blanket at the head of the bed. Bring it back up so it covers the pillows. Tuck the spread under the pillows at the fold.
