How to Set an Automatic Password for AT&T Wireless Voicemail

Your voice mailbox messages are as private as your email and text messages and should be protected from unauthorized users. If your voicemail messages fall into the wrong hands, your personal information may be compromised. If you have AT&T Wireless for mobile service, your voice mailbox does not have a password by default, but AT&T encourages its customers to set one up as an added security measure.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your AT&T Wireless handset. Hold the "1" key down to activate the voice mailbox speed dial.

    • 2

Press the star key to bypass your voice mailbox greeting and access the main menu. Press the "4" key to access the Personal Options menu and then press "2" to access Administrative Options.

    • 3

Press the "1" key for the Passwords menu. Press the "2" key enable a voicemail password for your AT&T Wireless number.

    • 4

Enter your desired voicemail password and press the pound key. Enter your new voicemail password again to confirm the choice and press the pound key. Press the end key to exit your voice mailbox.

Tips & Warnings

  • Commit your voicemail password to memory instead of writing it down. If you must write it down, keep it in a safe place that is not near your cell phone. If you ever forget your voicemail password, AT&T Wireless customer service can reset it for you over the phone or through the company's Internet site.

  • You may choose any four- to 15-digit number combination for your voicemail password. Avoid using easily guessed number combinations for your voicemail password, such as the last four digits of your phone number, the last four digits on your Social Security number or your birthday.
