How to Clean & Wash Sheepskin Covers
Sheepskin is an animal-based leather that has a surface appearance similar to suede and must be cleaned in much the same way you would leather. Sheepskin is used to make a variety of items, including clothing, shoes, handbags, bedding and seat covers. Cleaning sheepskin covers requires more time than cleaning other types of materials because the sheepskin must be cleaned by hand. Test for Color Fastness

Pour a dime-sized amount of a leather cleaner into a bowl and dilute it with 1/2 tsp. of water. Mix the solution.

Dip a clean cloth into the leather shampoo mixture and apply it to an obscure area of the sheepskin cover. Rub the area gently with the cloth.

Allow the sheepskin to dry completely and examine the area for a change in color. This tests the color fastness of the material and is especially important for sheepskin that has been dyed a color.

Fill a sink with lukewarm water and the amount of leather shampoo recommended on the product packaging. Agitate the water with your hand to mix the shampoo with the water.

Dip a cloth into the sink and wring it out to remove as much moisture as possible.

Apply the damp cloth to the surface of the sheepskin cover and rub it gently to clean it. Concentrate on areas that are especially stained. Rinse the cloth as needed and continue rubbing until the entire sheepskin cover is clean.

Rub the cloth over the entire sheepskin cover to rinse it and remove the soap residue.

Lay a white bath towel on top of the sheepskin cover and press down on it gently to soak up the moisture.

Lay the sheepskin cover in an area with good air circulation to dry.

Brush the entire surface of the sheepskin cover gently with a leather brush when it is dry. This makes the sheepskin soft again.
