How to Crack a Fire Safe

Fire safes are containers that are meant to be fireproof in a certain amount of heat. In theory, these safes protect your property from being stolen while keeping it from being burned up. However, if you forget the combination to your fire safe or lose the key, it may take a little bit of time and effort to get it open.

Instructions

    • 1

Get a regular screwdriver; one with a flat head that is roughly as thin as the key to the safe will do nicely.

    • 2

Press the screwdriver into the keyhole and try to turn it. If the screwdriver presses in all of the surfaces in the lock then you can turn the mechanism the same way you would a key to pop your fire safe open.

If you have a combination lock on your fire safe and you haven't changed it since you got it, call the manufacturer. There are industry standard passcodes that fire safes are made with, and the manufacturer can give you a list of them. Eventually one will open up your safe if you haven't created your own passcode.

If all else fails, call the locksmith. Generally there will be a fee involved for his services, but if what you're keeping in your fire safe is important enough then it will probably be worth it to get it out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only do this to your own safe, or to a safe that you have permission to try and open.
