How to Become an Airline Agent
Airline agents work for airlines as the first person the passenger meets at the airport or at a hotel. They make reservations, accept and sell tickets as well as provide customer service. The job can require long hours of standing as well as lifting 50 to 70 pounds of luggage and preparing them for loading onto an aircraft. Furthermore, airline agents help customers resolve disputes, reschedule flights if there are delays or cancellations, help with baggage claims, assist with departure and arrival information and give security information prior to flights.

Obtain a high school degree or a GED. It is a requirement for you to have one of these certificates prior to becoming an airline agent. It is also a preference for more employers that you have a bachelor's degree in a related field, such as tourism and hospitality.

Exhibit exceptional customer service and sales proficiencies. It helps to have this in your background prior to applying for the job. As an airline agent, your role is to ensure 100 percent client satisfaction.

Convey the ability to work a variety of schedules. Flights are scheduled 24 hours a day; therefore, airline agents are needed at all times.

Strive for excellence in your communication skills, both verbal and written. You will be in direct communication with clients on a daily basis. You are also required to have good computer and typing skills.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of airline reservation systems such as Sabre. You will be working with this application consistently.
