How Do I Buy iTunes Apps With a Gift Card?

Save

The iTunes Store contains more than just music. You can also buy iTunes applications, better known as "Apps." These apps allow you to play games, read breaking news headlines and listen to streaming radio all at the push of a button. The apps that you purchase from iTunes can be transferred onto any iPhone or iPod Touch that you own. Just as with iTunes music, you can use an iTunes gift card to purchase apps from iTunes.

Things You'll Need

  • iTunes Store account
  • Open iTunes.

  • Click on the "iTunes Store" option on the left side of the iTunes window. The iTunes Store will then open in the middle of iTunes.

  • Click the "Sign In" link in the top-right corner of iTunes. A Sign In window will appear. Enter your iTunes account information in order to sign into your iTunes account.

  • Click the "Redeem" option on the right side of iTunes beneath the Quick Links heading.

  • Enter the gift card code inside the "Redeem Code" text box. You'll find the code on the back of the card. After you've typed in the code, click "Redeem." The balance on the gift card will be added to your iTunes account.

  • Click on the "App Store" button at the top of iTunes.

  • Browse through the different categories of iTunes apps until you find one you want to buy. Then click on that particular App.

  • Click the "Free App" button (if the app is free) or the "Buy App" button beneath the name of the iTunes app. If the app isn't free, you'll be asked to sign in to your iTunes account once more. Type your iTunes account information inside the open dialog box and then click "Download." The iTunes app will be purchased and downloaded, and the charge will be subtracted from your iTunes account.

Tips & Warnings

  • An Apple gift card can't be used in the iTunes Store. The gift card must be an iTunes Store gift card.
