Purchase a trash can blind. There a number of two-, three-, and four-panel screens made specifically for obscuring the view of trash cans when placed in front of or around them. When placed against an out-of-the way spot of the yard, typically on the side of the house or behind an air-conditioned unit, these portable blinds create a small boxed-in area that conceals the view of the trash cans from the street. Most screens have latches at every hinge, so you can control which way you want them to open and shut. Screens come in varying sizes, styles, and colors so that homeowners can pick the one that best matches their house.

Use ivy to hide the trash cans from site. Ivy is a natural, homegrown solution for obscuring your trash and recycle cans. By growing ivy from an elevated position on the house, you can drape ivy over the trash cans when it gets long enough. This may not work for all houses, as ivy does not compliment all homes, however it is an interesting and inexpensive solution to the problem.

Use bamboo to create a natural blind to place trash cans behind. Bamboo is a quick-growing plant that looks very nice when grown together in rows, although it is inexpensive. Find a corner of your yard to grow your bamboo blind, dig a trench several inches deep and plant the bamboo roots. Newly planted bamboo requires lots of water, but soon you should have a tall wall of bamboo to obscure the view of the trash can. Bamboo blinds are a great spot for composts as well. Keep bamboo away from your garden though, as it can easily take over the other plants.
