How to Identify the Internet Explorer Version

Microsoft has released numerous versions of its popular Internet Explorer (also known as "IE") web browser over the years. Each new version contains updated features and novel options designed to enhance your web-browsing experience. Identifying the version of Internet Explorer that is installed on your computer can help you to solve problems affecting your web browser and decide whether updating to a newer version is worthwhile.

Instructions

1. Launch your Internet Explorer web browser.

2. Hold down the "Alt" key on your keyboard and press and release the "H" key. Continue to press the "Alt" key after you release the "H" key.

3. Press the "A" key while continuing to hold down the "Alt" key. A menu will pop up on your screen if you did this step correctly.

4. Find the "Version" line. The number after the word "Version" identifies your Internet Explorer version. For example, if it says "Version: 5.5," your Internet Explorer version is 5.5.
