A cover letter can help you find success as an educator.

Working as a teacher can be a very rewarding and satisfying career choice. As a teacher, you have the opportunity to mold young minds and teach children the value of knowledge. No matter what age group you teach or what subject you specialize in, you can provide children with skills and knowledge that may stick with them for a lifetime. Before you can apply for a job as an educator, you need to create a compelling cover letter to submit along with your resume.

Instructions

    • 1

Type your name and contact information at the top of the cover letter. Include your address, phone number and email.

    • 2

Skip one line and type the recipient's name, usually the school's principal. Include her title, the school's name and the school's address.

    • 3

Skip one line and type the date you plan to submit the cover letter.

    • 4

Skip one line and type your greeting, such as "Dear Ms. Foster."

    • 5

Skip one line and start typing your first paragraph. From now on, you should skip one line between each paragraph. In the opening paragraph, you should state what position you're applying for, such as seventh grade science teacher, and state where you heard of the position if applicable.

    • 6

Explain your previous work experience in the second paragraph. Focus on your specific roles and responsibilities as a teacher, such as developing curriculum. You can also talk about any clubs you supervised or sports you coached. It's important to demonstrate that you want to be involved with the school and the children you're teaching beyond the classroom.

    • 7

Request the opportunity to come in for an interview in the third and final paragraph. Thank the recipient for considering you for the education position and for reading your enclosed resume.

    • 8

Skip one line and type a professional closing, such as "Sincerely" or "Kind Regards."

    • 9

Skip three or four lines and type your name. Once you print out the cover letter, you'll sign your name in this space.
