Drape a tablecloth or sheet over the chair so that it covers the chair from top to bottom.

Pin the material along the back and seat of the chair so that the fabric adjusts appropriately when someone sits in the chair. The best way to complete this step is to have someone sit in the chair and have another person adjust and pin the fabric while the covered chair is occupied. Keep in mind, the cloth should be long enough to still cover the chair completely while the seat is taken.

Tie a large decorative ribbon around the back of the chair to hide the pins. The tying can be done with a single swipe of the ribbon or in a decorative crisscrossed fashion. Multiple ribbons are also an option for a more dynamic cover.

Another idea for creating cheap chair covers is using large pillowcases or shirts to cover the backs of chairs, then pinning and using ribbon to secure them.
