How to Reset a Dead Battery in a Keyless Car Remote

After several years of use, a battery within a keyless car remote control will become discharged. The battery must be replaced to reset the keyless car remote control. While each manufacturer uses a different size or type of battery, the procedure for replacing a dead keyless car remote control battery is generally similar across all manufacturers.

Things You'll Need

  • Keyless car remote control
  • Replacement battery
  • Screwdriver or small coin
  • Remove the replacement battery from the packaging. Loosen the remote control retaining screw, and open the remote control cover.

  • Remove the old battery. Insert the new battery.

  • Replace the remote control cover, and tighten the remote control retaining screw.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not insert the battery backwards, or the remote could become damaged.
