Microsoft Windows Media Player stores videos in the Windows Media Video (WMV) file format. The format appears as the standard movie container in many other Windows-based applications and devices, including the Microsoft Zune. To make WMVs work in iTunes, you first need to convert them into a format the program understands, like the QuickTime Movie (MOV) container. Multiple websites will perform this service for no charge.

Instructions

      Open any Internet browser, such as Apple Safari or Internet Explorer, and access media-convert.com (see Resources). Click "Choose File" and locate the WMV file you want to convert into an MOV. Pick it in the pop-up by clicking "OK."

      Pick "WMV" for your input video format in the drop-down menu. Next, choose "MOV" in the output drop-down menu.

      Click "OK" to start the MOV transfer. After the conversion completes, click on the video link to download the file.

      Access mediaconverter.org in your browser of choice (see Resources).

      Choose "Upload a file" and find the WMV file. Next, choose "MOV" as your target output.
