How to Install a 2 Wire Modem Router
A 2Wire modem/router is a networking device that combines a wireless router and a DSL modem. Although 2Wire units are sold in retail outlets, most users obtain one from their DSL provider, as it is included as part of the "welcome" package. You will need to have an active DSL account, along with your user name and password to successfully install a 2Wire device.
Instructions

1
RJ-11 Phone Cable Attach your 2Wire unit to the phone jack that is associated with your DSL account, using an RJ-11 telephone cable. Plug the A/C cord into a power adapter and allow several minutes for the unit to fully boot up.
-
2
RJ-45 Ethernet Cable Connect your computer to the 2Wire using an Ethernet RJ-45 cable. Attach one end to one of the numbered ports on the back of the unit and the other into your computer's Ethernet network jack.

-
3
Configuring Your 2Wire Launch a Web browser, and enter " 2Wire.gateway.net" in the URL bar to open the configuration page. Click on the "Run System Setup Wizard" link to begin.
-
4
A Password Protects Your Network Create a password that prevents any unauthorized users from accessing the configuration controls of the unit. Then enter your 20 digit key code, supplied by your DSL provider, to authorize the modem. This key code was included in your initial DSL customer package.
-
5
Choose "PPPoA" as your connection method and enter your DSL user name and password in the appropriate fields. Both the user name and password are case sensitive, so confirm that you've keyed it in exactly as it appears in the documentation.
-
6
Keep Your Network Secure Enable the wireless network by clicking on the "Home Network" icon and then clicking on "Wireless Settings" link. You will be prompted to name your wireless network; give it a name that is easily identifiable and that differentiates it from other wireless networks that happen to be within range.
-
7
Configure your wireless security by clicking on "Wireless Network Security" and select "WPA." You have the choice to create your own password or use the default key that was provided along with the modem. Select "Use custom encryption key" to create your own password, and type your choice in the first field, and retype it to confirm it in the second field. If you want to use the provided key, enter the number located on the sticker (usually located on the side or the bottom of the 2Wire unit) in the "Key" field. Save your changes by clicking on the "Save" button.
-
8
Working Wirelessly Enable wireless networking on your computer and connect to your wireless network, using the password you created in Step 7.
