How to Install a Plastic Mailbox & Post
You are required to have a mailbox for mail to be delivered to your home address. Your mailbox may be a board with a metal box on top or a plastic post and mailbox. Your mail will be delivered as long as your mailbox stands upright along the correct side of the road on your street. Plastic mailboxes are popular due to their uniform look in neighborhoods. Dig a hole 18 to 24 inches deep where you would like to place your mailbox.

Place the mailbox post in the hole at a straight angle.

Fill the hole with dirt. You will need to brace the mailbox post to keep it from falling. Use a helper or boards as braces.

Pack down the soil every few inches as you fill the hole so that the dirt is packed hard and the mailbox will be secure. Use a 2 inch by 4 inch board for this.

Tips & Warnings
Mailbox posts can be buried in concrete for extra security.
